The mission of the Federal Way Community Gardens Foundation (FWCGF) is to GROW, TEACH, and GIVE to the community by building a city of beautiful, productive gardens.
The beauty of the gardens and the friendliness of the volunteers encourage fellowship and a place to enjoy the serenity of nature. FWCGF cares deeply about the health of our community. Our beautiful gardens provide those in need with organic vegetables and fruit, education and opportunities for everyone to grow, learn and give.
A wide variety of produce is grown throughout the gardens. Through this variety we can all learn about cultural differences and learn to embrace new ideas. Planting different varieties of produce, from year to year, also shows good stewardship of the gardens and helps minimize garden pests and diseases, encouraging healthier crops.
The gardens are a wonderful teaching tool for people to see and understand how food is grown and harvested. Educational opportunities are offered, not only in our school gardens, but to the public. Throughout the year, seminars on gardening and nutrition are offered to members of the community.
All of the gardens distribute their produce to those in need within our community. The gardens located within the elementary schools help feed some of the children from that particular school. The three larger gardens organize with area homeless programs, subsidized and transitional housing units, senior programs and more. Extra produce from any of our gardens may be combined to help make sure that all who need the food receives it.
